Upgrading your Polycade Lux ComputerUpdated a minute ago

If you have a Lux model, your PC is likely running Windows 10 and unable to upgrade to Windows 11. If you're looking for a more powerful computer to run Windows 11 and / or modern graphics intensive games, or you just want to revamp your PC, follow these instructions.

Building a PC is somewhat technical...it's likely easier than you think, but also if you're not very technically inclined then you may want to hire a local PC shop to do this for you.

Here's our recommendation for building an upgraded PC:

  1. Pick your preferred price bracket: https://www.tomshardware.com/best-picks/best-pc-builds-gaming
  2. Buy the components suggested in the build you pick.
    Key Notes:
    • The Lux ATX chassis doesn't have a place to mount a liquid cooling radiator. Avoid this type of cooling system and instead get a traditional fan / heatsink.
    • Make sure you DO NOT order the computer case, as the open frame PC chassis that your current PC is installed on will serve as the PC case.
    • Depending on what components you choose, it's possible you can still use the same PSU (aka large black cube). Most Lux machines used a 500w PSU - if your chosen build suggests a PSU of equal or less wattage, then you can reuse this component from your original PC.
    • Note the connector used for the "front panel" module in the drawer of your Lux. Not all motherboards have this same type of connector. Alternatively, you can get a different front panel to replace the one in the drawer.
  3. When you're ready to install the PC components, remove your PC from the Polycade by unplugging all cables & removing the 4 nuts on the left and right edges (2 nuts on each edge).
  4. Remove the PC components from the chassis. If you're also removing the PSU, note that we typically used some double sided tape to secure the PSU at the bottom, so once you take out the 4 screws on the top, it may still be tricky to remove. Since the chassis is aluminum, trying to yank the PSU off will likely deform the chassis. Passing a thin knife under the PSU to detach the double sided tape may be a better option.
  5. Build your PC on the chassis.
  6. Follow this guide for the windows install / software setup: https://polycade.gorgias.help/en-US/fully-resetting-and-re-installing-windows-1112922

This is of course an abridged guide for PC building, meant to mainly address the nuances of working with your Polycade Lux hardware. You can look up other PC building youtube tutorials etc to learn more about building a PC.
