Save your gameUpdated 2 months ago

The ability to save a game in Polycade AGS depends on how the game is being run - i.e. Steam, an emulator (Retroarch, MAME, etc), etc.

Saving MAME (Arcade) Games

In order to save an arcade game, first launch the game. MAME allows 10 save slots, each is identified by a number (0 through 9). While the game is running, press SHIFT+F7 on your keyboard. Next, press a number to save your current game in that number's save slot.

Note that when you launch an arcade game on Polycade AGS, it's configured to automatically load from save slot 1, so if you have a save in that slot, every time you launch the game it will begin from that point. We set it up this way because many arcade games have long, weird boot sequences, so this allows you to skip that each time. Also, you can preload a bunch of credits in the game so that every time you launch it, you already have credits loaded up.

Saving Retroarch (Console) Games

In order to save a console game, first launch the game. Much like MAME, Retroarch allows 10 save slots. Operate the save/load as follows:
F6 - Decrease save slot number

F7 - Increase save slot number

F2 - Create save state in current save slot

F4 - Load save state from current save slot

Unlike MAME, Retroarch is not configured to automatically launch games from save state 1, it simply launches from the game's normal boot.
